8 Funny Geek Crimes

Arrested for a virtual murder

A 43-year-old Japanese woman, angry over a sudden divorce in the virtual online game Maple Story, has been arrested on suspicion of hacking into the game where she killed her once-virtual husband, authorities said.
Authorities said the Miyazaki woman illegally accessed the game with a password she hijacked from a colleague. That made it appear as if her coworker committed the online murder.
According to The Associated Press, the woman told police: “I was suddenly divorced, without a word of warning. That made me so angry.”
The two had never met in real life. (Link)

Watching the sci-fi show Battlestar Galactica while driving

A truck driver watched episodes of the cult sci-fi show Battlestar Galactica as he drove a 38-ton lorry along a motorway, a court heard.
Benjamin Trotsman, 37, was spotted driving erratically in the early hours of the morning by another trucker who called police.
A Cumbria Police spokesman said: “The driver was seen to be watching a film on a laptop computer that was situated on the dashboard in his cab.
“He appeared oblivious to other motorists and continued to drive in an erratic manner, speeding up and slowing down, and crossing on occasions on to the hard shoulder.”
Police stopped the lorry and when they examined his laptop it appeared that Trotsman had been watching Battlestar Galactica. (Link)

"I have killed them all!"… ups… sorry… Wrong Number!

A call mistakenly made by a victorious video gamer led to his arrest on an outstanding warrant.
Authorities arrested Thomas Ballard, 29, of Delhi, early Monday after a woman reported receiving a late-night call from someone saying, “I have killed them all.”
Ballard’s number showed up on the woman’s caller ID; he’d called by mistake, meaning instead to get a buddy to talk-up his success in an Xbox game, said Sgt. Julie Lewis, a spokeswoman for the Louisiana State Police.
Authorities following up at the address, to investigate whether there had been any foul play, found no evidence of wrongdoing, she said. But they did find, in the process of identifying Ballard, that he had a 5-year-old warrant out of Baton Rouge, charging him with failure to appear on a possession of cocaine charge.
Ballard was booked into the Richland Parish Detention Center for extradition to Baton Rouge.
“It was weird the way this all came down,” Lewis said Tuesday. “This isn’t something you could just make up.” (Link)

Gamers Arrested By SWAT Team After Playing Playstation Too Loudly

Two gamers in Denmark had a SWAT team knock down their door and arrest them after they were playing a video game too loudly. The pair were playing Rainbow Six on their PlayStation 3 when neighbors called the police to report that they heard loud gunshots coming from their apartment.
Police quickly cordoned off the area and stormed the house using a megaphone to command the pair to surrender. The two gamers were handcuffed until officers realized that they posed no threat.
A spokesman for the Copenhagen police said that they are obliged to investigate any reports of gunshots, which leads to occasional false alarms. (Link)

Try to sell "World of Warcraft gold"

In the US, you can’t really arrest someone for selling gold in-game — it’s against Blizzard’s Terms of Service, so they can ban you from the game or even file suit against you, but it’s not actually illegal. But in China, under communism, things are apparently a little different. Two gold farmers have actually been arrested by the government for “unfair revenue distribution” — apparently the two had a disagreement about how to distribute the over $200,000 they had made from selling gold in World of Warcraft. Arrested for carrying his replica laser blaster

“Kim”, 32, dressed in the outfit of an Imperial Death Star guard, was pinned to the ground and handcuffed by the other Force – the Victorian police force – after he was spotting marching through the city with a replica laser blaster poking out of his backpack.
Kim was on his way to a photo shoot with the MX newspaper, but concerned patrons at the Southgate retail complex on the Yarra River alerted security guards when they spotted the Sci Fi foot soldier eating breakfast in the foodcourt in his Evil Empire regalia.
“I will be requesting the safe return of my trooper’s replica movie prop and asking for all charges to be dropped”, 501st Legion Commanding Officer Bruce Harrison said.
He said his trooper’s weapon replica was worth up to $500, and he was hoping to negotiate it’s safe return this afternoon. (Link)

The Gunman with water guns

On May 12, 2009, an incident involving the ‘Assassin’ game happened behind a North Hampton, New Hampshire restaurant, where an employee spotted a man in dark clothing with a gun. He called the police and the student in question did not resist but simply walked to his car and explained the game to the police. The student did not run away from the police, he cooperated fully, and was not arrested. The man turned out to be a high school senior from Exeter, New Hampshire waiting for another high school student to come out of her job at the restaurant with a squirt gun in hand. (Link)

5 Maddest Scientists

1. Josef Mengele: The Angel of Death

Joseph Mengele gained notoriety chiefly for being one of the SS physicians who supervised the selection of arriving transports of prisoners, determining who was to be killed and who was to become a forced laborer, and for performing human experiments on camp inmates, amongst whom Mengele was known as the "Angel of Death."

At Auschwitz, Mengele did a number of twin studies. After the experiment was over, these twins were usually murdered and their bodies dissected. He supervised an operation by which two Gypsy children were sewn together to create conjoined twins; the hands of the children became badly infected where the veins had been resected. Mengele was almost fanatical about drawing blood from twins, mostly identical twins. He is reported to have bled some to death this way

Auschwitz prisoner Alex Dekel has said: "I have never accepted the fact that Mengele himself believed he was doing serious work — not from the slipshod way he went about it. He was only exercising his power. Mengele ran a butcher shop — major surgeries were performed without anesthesia. Once, I witnessed a stomach operation — Mengele was removing pieces from the stomach, but without any anesthetic. Another time, it was a heart that was removed, again, without anesthesia. It was horrifying. Mengele was a doctor who became mad because of the power he was given. Nobody ever questioned him — why did this one die? Why did that one perish? The patients did not count. He professed to do what he did in the name of science, but it was a madness on his part".

2. Vladimir Demikhov: The Two-Headed Dog Surgeon

On 1954, soviet surgeon Vladimir Demikhov, revealed his masterpiece to the world: a two-headed dog. The head of a puppy had been grafted onto the neck of an adult German shepherd. The second head would lap at milk, even though it did not need nourishment — and though the milk then dribbled down the neck from its disconnected oesophagus. Although both animals soon died because of tissue rejection, that did not stop Demikhov from creating 19 more over the next 15 years. (Video)

3. Johann Conrad Dippel: The original Frankenstein

Johann Conrad Dippel was such a mad scientist that he was actually born in castle Frankenstein in 1673, a place near near Darmstadt, Germany. He is said to be the model for Mary Shelley's novel "Frankenstein", though that idea remains controversial.

After studying theology, philosophy and alchemy, he created an animal oil made of bones, blood and various other animal products, known as Dippel's Oil which was supposed to be the equivalent to the alchemists' dream of the "elixir of life." It is said that some of his work on anatomy involved boiling various body parts in large vats to make some kind of mad man stew, and that he also tried his hand at moving the soul from one corpse to another, possibly with a funnel, a hose and a lot of lubricant.

4. Shiro Ishii: Dr. Pure Evil

Ishii was a microbiologist and the lieutenant general of Unit 731, a biological warfare unit of the Imperial Japanese Army during the Second Sino-Japanese War. He was born in the former Shibayama Village of Sanbu District in Chiba Prefecture, and studied medicine at Kyoto Imperial University. In 1932, he began his preliminary experiments in biological warfare as a secret project for the Japanese military. In 1936, Unit 731 was formed. Ishii built a huge compound — more than 150 buildings over six square kilometers — outside the city of Harbin, China.

Some of the numerous atrocities committed by Ishii and others under his command in Unit 731 include: vivisection of living people (including pregnant women who were impregnated by the doctors), prisoners had limbs amputated and reattached to other parts of their body, some prisoners had parts of their bodies frozen and thawed to study the resulting untreated gangrene. Humans were also used as living test cases for grenades and flame throwers. Prisoners were injected with inoculations of disease, disguised as vaccinations, to study their effects. To study the effects of untreated venereal diseases, male and female prisoners were deliberately infected with syphilis and gonorrhea via rape, then studied. Having been granted immunity by the American Occupation Authorities at the end of the war, Ishii never spent any time in jail for his crimes and died at the age of 67 of throat cancer.

5. Sergei Bruyukhonenko: The Dog Decapitator

Way before Vladimir Demikhov, Bruyukhonenko's mad experiments on dogs led to the development of open-heart procedures. He developed a crude machine called the autojektor (a heart and lung machine). By using this primitive machine, Bryukhonenko kept the heads of severed dogs alive. In 1928, he displayed one of the heads in front of an audience. To prove it was real, he banged a hammer on the table. The head flinched. When a light was shone in its eyes, the eyes blinked. And when it was fed a piece of cheese, the remnants promptly popped out of the esophageal tube, much to the displeasure of disgusted viewers. (Video)

Guinness World Records For World's Shortest Men

In this corner, measuring in at 27 inches tall, Edward Nino Hernandez -- newly declared "world's shortest man" by Guinness World Records.

And in this corner, coming in at 22 inches tall, we have the challenger: Khagendra Thapa Magar.

It's not much of a challenge -- once he turns 18 next month and the measurements are official, Khagendra is certain to knock his little rival from his high perch and take the title of "world's smallest man."

The 10-pound Nepali dynamo visited New York City to promote the Ripley's newest book of oddities, "Enter If You Dare."

As I wrote at AOL News, Magar eats just 3.5 ounces of food each day, which is roughly equivalent to two chocolate bars. He weighs as much as a cat, and is only a little taller than a newborn -- if a newborn could stand.

Doctors haven't figured out why this karate-loving dance machine is so small, but it's believed to be a pituitary gland disorder.

You can see more of Magar and other world record holders in my special gallery, New World Records.

Extraordinary Indian Man With 12 Fingers 14 Toes

Extraordinary Indian Man With 12 Fingers 14 Toes

Haramb Ashok Kumthekar Indian man is proud of the 12 fingers and 14 toes which have put him in the record books.

Rather than feel self conscious about the way he was born, Haramb Ashok Kumthekar has always celebrated his extra digits.

The 24-year-old business graduate was born with six fingers on each hand and seven toes on each foot.

This means he is the unofficial record holder for the most recorded number of fingers and toes on a living person.

However, he does not hold the Guinness world record which is held by fellow countryman Devendra Harne, who has 12 fingers and 13 toes on his feet.

Haramb does not hold the official record because, technically, some of his fingers are attached and are not classed as separate digits.

However, he is recognised by the Indian equivalent of the Guinness Book of Records, the Limca Book of Records.

Haramb's extra fingers and toes are caused by the medical condition polydactlyism, which comes from the Greek for "many fingers".

While each of Haramb's extra fingers and toes have separate bones, they don't all boast nerve endings and he is unable to move them or feel them all properly.

Extraordinary Indian Man With 12 Fingers 14 Toes

And while he is proud of his extra digits, Haramb admits that it can be frustrating at times, especially when it comes to finding shoes for his feet or gloves for his hands.
